Yesterday, I took a video class on UStream to learn shading techniques when coloring images. This digi was our sample. You can watch the video and play along on this blog: A Colourful World. My samples are made with Prismacolor pencils and Odorless Mineral Spirits. I colored the bunny on the left during the session and colored the bunny on the right this morning. I have a lot to learn and welcome suggestions.
I rarely color images for my cards because I find them so difficult. I'm hoping these classes will make it easier for me to do this in the future.
Velda, I think they both look great. It looks like your colors blended really well. My image with watercolor pencils and blending pen turned out WAY better than my image with Bic markers that don't blend. So, I'm thinking that's the key to this whole shading thing. If I had to pick one over the other, I think I'd pick the one on the right that has more white on it - it may be just a personal preference. They will both look great on cards!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment on my blog, Velda. My pencils were dry and then I used a blending pen to mix the colors together. I think your advice about short strokes is exactly what I need to do. I'm still coloring like a kid doing a coloring page. Maybe not so heavy of a hand with those short strokes, too? I need lots more practice. I hope that Sandy does this again! :-)
