OWH VCMP #5

As I've said before, I'm old and slow.  I know this challenge was issued several days ago.  The challenge was issued the first day of the OWH Presidents Day Virtual Card Making Party.  Challenge #5 is the Disappearing Act - making a sheet of 12X12 paper disappear using one sketch.  Since I do not make cards from sketches, I chose to jut make all these cards from the same sheet of patterned paper.
Since you can't really see the details in the group photo, I scanned one of the cards.
The pattern on the background paper doesn't show up well, but it has butterflies flying around all over the paper.  I cut the pieces and adhered them to the dark blue cardstock, then ran them through the Big Shot with a Cuttlebug embossing folder.

The image is from Our Daily Bread Designs, stamped on white cardstock with Adirondack Denim ink and cut out with Spellbinders Labels 18 die.  The sentiment is an unmounted rubber stamp, using the same ink.  The butterflies are punched with a Martha Stewart punch, with tiny pearls added for emphasis and to draw the eye to the focal point.

To learn more about creating a focal point on your cards, please see the OWH Boot Camp called Get to the Point.  This is part of a series of great tutorials to help us make better cards to send to our heroes.

  1. Velda this is very nicely done. My eye goes right to the big butterfly and the sentiment first and then takes in the rest of the silhouetted image. There are a lot of things working together to make the design a success... the wide white border gives great contrast, the placement of the large butterfly and the knot of your ribbon are super and help to draw the eye right in on the focal point. You've even touched on the subject of some future bootcamps in using an odd number of butterflies, that also vary in size. Thanks for sharing it with everyone and for joining in the February Bootcamp!

  2. Absolutely fantastic. The perfect amount of embellishing. I love the color! Too many Mothers' Day cards are pink. I prefer blue any day.
