Turkey time

I'm trying to complete my box for the OWH Card Drive.  We are supposed to make half holiday cards and half general cards (missing you, thank you, thinking of you, etc.).  I haven't managed to make enough holiday cards.  Since I'm having trouble with Christmas cards, I decided to try Thanksgiving cards.  Here's my first attempt.

I stamped this turkey on some watercolor paper that I had tea stained.  The image is hard to color because of all the texture in the paper.  There's a lot of fruit and veggies on the ground and they are hard to see them on this paper.

Miss You cards

Operation Write Home gets lots of requests from our heroes for Miss You cards.  They really are missing their loved ones, so we must remember them always.  They are doing so very much for those of us at home.

I started making kits to teach my friend this technique
that I learned a couple of weeks ago.

After making a sample card, I cut and assembled all the supplies for making cards.

After cutting and stacking all the layers, we started stamping leaves on them.  Then, we assembled the layers.

We ended up with 7 cards nearly alike, but with different colors.  This works out fine because they can all be included in the boxes for different outfits.

OWH VCMP- challenge #10

I know, the Virtual Card Making Party was held on Labor Day weekend, but I'm old and slow.  I still haven't met all the challenges, but I did make one for Challenge #10.  This challenge was to make a card that represents your state.  Since I live in southern Nevada, I made a desert scene, complete with Joshua Tree, Roadrunner and gecko.

These are all made with very old unmounted stamps that I bought when I first moved to the desert.  You can see scenes similar to this all around this area.  I hope it reminds some of our heroes of home.

Break free

I'm feeling lonely because a good friend is away for a week. 
I gave her this card before she left on a cruise.

This is her first trip away from home in some time.  I hope she is having a great time, but I miss hearing from her.  We'll have to catch up on everything when she returns.

OWH VCMP - Challenge 9

I've been trying to create cards for the Virtual Card Making Party, but I've skipped a few.  In challenge #9, Shannon challenged us to make a card using neglected tools.  I used a couple of them here.  I used a very old silhouette punch by All Night Media.  I also used a deckle rotary blade for cutting the edges.  I never could cut straight with the deckle scissors, so I bought a rotary blade for my Carl trimmer.

I also embossed the gold paper with a Cuttlebug embossing folder that hasn't been used for a couple of years.  The sentiment is a sticker that was gold, but I colored it red with a Sharpie before putting it on the card.

OWH VCMP #6

I'm getting a late start in today's Virtual Card Making Party.  Challenge #6 is to use our punches and make a card with Sketch #136.

I found this old punch that hasn't been used for years to punch out the snowflakes in this pearlescent white paper.  The light blue background paper is also pearlescent.  It's hard to capture this shine with the scanner, but it shows the rest of the details pretty well.

OWH VCMP #4

Challenge #4 in today's Virtual Cardmaking Party is to make a card with Triple Time Stamping.  This was a new technique for me, but Donna gives a good tutorial.

This leaf stamps are all from different companies and very old from my stash.  I used Memento inks in Potters Clay, Bamboo Leaves and Rich Cocoa.

OWH VCMP #3

This is the 3rd challenge of the day in the Virtual Card Making Party.  This challenge is to make a card with snowflakes that isn't a Christmas card.  Our heroes can use general cards during the winter season.

The silver doesn't show as shiny, but it is.  I used silver ink to highlight the embossed snowflakes.  The large snowflake is embossed in silver and the ribbon is sheer white with silver snowflakes.  The layer outside the blue layer is also silver.

OWH VCMP #2

The second challenge in the Virtual Card Making Party was to make a card using:  1 image - 2 patterned papers - 3 words

I chose the Statue of Liberty as my image, the stars and stripes as my patterned papers and God Bless America as my words.  This type of card can be used by our heroes to send home as a thank you card or anything else they want to say.  I used Sketch #88 for this card.

OWH VCMP/ODBD Challenge

Operation Write Home is sponsoring a Virtual Card Making Party for Labor Day weekend.  The first challenge is from Our Daily Bread Designs to create cards using either a scripture verse or and uplifting quote or sentiment.

Since I'm also working toward the No Place Like Home Card Drive, I decided to work on more Christmas cards.
