Think Spring

Since my weather has improved, I'm trying to make cards again.  It has stopped raining for now and I'm hoping Spring won't be far away.  During my miserable weather, I ordered some new dies.  Here's the first card created with them.

Challenge - think summer

We had a challenge on Gingerwood Bulletin Board to create a card for summer, to help us through this miserable winter.  I'm really looking forward to summer.
This card was made with some of my recently purchased dies, with a watercolor background.  The background was made with Distress Oxide inks rubbed on a self clean mat, then spritzed with water.  Watercolor paper was dipped repeatedly into the wet ink, creating layers of color.

Continuing bad weather

We have had a very wet winter here in the desert.  We've had a lot of rain here in the valley, but the mountains are getting snow.  I can see the mountains from my back yard.  My yard is so saturated with rain water that it's growing moss and mold.  After this flooding a few days ago, it cleared up for a couple of days, then the rain returned during the night.
This morning, I woke up to many clouds, with only a partial view of the snowy mountains.
The forecast is for a couple days of partial clearing, before the rain returns.  I'm really getting anxious for our hot, dry summer.  I love the summer, but many people avoid the desert during the summer months, making it very enjoyable here.

Weather problems

I live in the southern Nevada desert, where we are know for our hot, dry summers.  Many people choose this time of year to visit and get out of the cold weather.  However, this winter has been very wet.  My yard is so saturated with rain water that it can't absorb what is now falling.  I took some photos of my flooded yard.

Since my little dog is a dachshund, with very short legs, his belly drags in the water and he prefers to hibernate with me.
I took some photos of the mountains surrounding our valley yesterday.  The mountains are getting lots of snow, while we get rain.

It will be interesting to see how the mountains look after all this rain here today.  They are still buried in the clouds.

Background diecut

This is the second card I made using my new Big Shot.  This background die is from Impression Obscession and the sentiment from Hero Arts.  I made the background with watercolor paper and Twinkling H2Os.  The butterfly is from a Memory Box die and the frames are cut with Hero Arts infinity dies.

Layered diecuts

I've been playing with my new Big Shot and learning to use it properly.  I recently saw Jennifer McGuire's blog on Faux Layered Die Cuts.  Since I owned one of the dies (by Hero Arts) that she used, I decided to give it a try.  I like the way this card turned out.  It's really not that hard once you have viewed Jennifer's video.  The sentiments on the front are from Hero Arts and the sentiment on the inside is by Our Daily Bread.
